When the going gets tough the tough use duct tape…that’s the way things roll around this house! If you need something repaired…and it can’t be fixed with duct tape and/or a tie wrap…you’re in trouble. Although we have two tool rooms outside filled with every kind of tools imaginable most repair jobs around here are fixed with the simple solution of duct tape. It just seems to fit the bill for all of our repair needs.
Perhaps one of my favorite uses was the day I came home and “Mr. Fix-It” met me at the door to lead me to the kitchen and showed me that he had applied duct tape to my range “to make it look better”!
Now don’t be alarmed at the following…fill your heart with gratitude that you are not married to him…and by all means if you know him…never and I do mean never…ask him to fix anything for you….
Over the years this is what he’s done to my kitchen range…
He found these little metal pieces on the bottom of the oven after he cleaned it…he threw them away. He didn’t know they supported the heating element. But it was an easy fix…just prop it up with a couple of pair of tongs.
If the oven door handle gets loose…don’t just tighten it…get out your Granddaddy Dewalt Cordless drill and your biggest bolts…make you another big hole and screw that baby right through the oven door. Yes sir…that will fix it…and just use a little duct tape of the appropriate color to cover the mess that you make!
Now for the fix that you will need when your obsessive compulsive behavior causes you to decide to clean the inside of the oven door with a cold wet sponge while the oven is still hot. But it’s nothing to be alarmed about when the inside glass shatters…just go right to your local welding shop and have them cut a big ass heavy duty piece of sheet iron and screw that puppy right over the broken glass.
Be sure to be a little compassionate and sympathetic when your beloved significant other…pulls open the oven door for the first time and the door that now weighs more than she does…falls and hits her shin…causing her to jump and curse all around the kitchen before applying pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding.
And when finally…in it’s last days…now that the heating element has succumbed to the years of abuse and bites the dust causing you to cook for three months with the Broiler. Just get an oven thermometer…a pizza stone… and a large piece of aluminum foil. Heat that oven up to about 450 degrees…put your food in on top of the pizza stone so the bottom will cook…and place your foil on the top rack over your food so it won’t burn. The oven will stay at about 350 degrees.

Be sure and just give me a call if you need his “help” at your house….
